Stepping into science subject leadership can feel challenging, particularly as expectations for curriculum quality and impact continue to evolve. This course is designed to support new and developing science leaders in building confidence and clarity in their role. 

During this full-day session, participants will explore what high-quality science teaching and learning looks like and identify priorities for strengthening provision within their own setting. The training will support leaders to evaluate current practice, plan for improvement, and lead science effectively across the school.  

The course package also includes a half-day in-school visit from Emma Cooper, General Inspector/Adviser for Science, providing tailored support to address your school’s specific priorities and development needs

Learning Outcomes 

·       Develop a clear understanding of the importance and purpose of science within the primary curriculum. 

·       Identify the essential substantive knowledge that pupils should learn in science. 

·       Explore effective approaches to teaching disciplinary knowledge and working scientifically. 

·       Reflect on the current quality of science provision within your own school. 

·       Understand your responsibilities in ensuring safe practice in primary science.
