With more and more teachers expressing an interest in the applications of cognitive science research in the science classroom, this is an exciting opportunity for Heads of Science, Seconds in Science or Science Teachers and Primary science leads to deepen their understanding of the different areas of cognitive science and take back to their schools a range of resources and methodologies to use within their school context.
The course is split into four two-hour sessions:
- Session 1 - Introduction to Cognitive Science and Effective use of Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction
- Session 2 - Embedding Effective Retrieval Practice and Daily Review across the Curriculum
- Session 3 - Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) and Dual Coding
- Session 4 - Direct Instruction, Guided and Independent Practice, and Assessment
